NaCl deprecation and its impact on Xtralogic RDP client app

The current version of Xtralogic RDP client 3.x Chrome app is dependent on Native Client (NaCl) support in ChromeOS. Google announced that Native Client (NaCl) is being deprecated. The future availability of NaCl will be different for managed (enrolled into Chrome Enterprise) and unmanaged or consumer ChromeOS devices.

Managed devices

On managed devices NaCl is disabled by default starting with ChromeOS 132, which is being pushed out to devices in the second half of January 2025. NaCl can be re-enabled by modifying DeviceNativeClientForceAllowed policy.
To re-enable NaCl:

  • Go to your Google Admin console, in the left pane go to Devices > Chrome > Settings.
  • Select Device Settings tab on the rght.
  • Search for DeviceNativeClientForceAllowed.
  • Select “Allow Native Client to run even if it is disabled by default”.
  • Reboot managed Chrome devices.

ChromeOS 138, expected in July 2025, will be the last version with NaCl support. For managed environments, ChromeOS 138 is a Long-term Support (LTS). On the managed devices that have the NaCl allow policy enabled and are switched to LTS, NaCl will be available until LTS Last Refresh in April 2026.

Unmanaged devices

On devices not enrolled into Google Workspace (consumer devices), ChromeOS 138 is expected to be the last release with NaCl support.

IWA replacement app

We are actively developing a replacement Xtralogic RDP client web app built on Isolated Web App (IWA) technology. It is currently available for beta testing.
